Slot Car Mods Magazine is something a little different, for one we chose to go to a 100% digital format which in this day and age of technology, is the right thing to do... We have created a magazine that is kind of reminiscent of the old Car Model and Model Car & Science magazines, in that, we have little something for everyone, as well as some surprises that should help to drive people from outside the hobby to take a peek inside of ours... We're all about trying to be a part of helping this wonderful hobby to be bigger and better, which in turn is good for all of us involved...

Lola B10/60 is a sportscar created to compete in the LMP 1 category, according to the ACO regulations.

Lola has built cars for Le Mans since 1999; even the factory MG and Aston Martin cars were designed by the English constructor. In 2008, Lola was the first to offer a Coupe design available to privateer teams.



Chassis monocoque and the crash box are made of carbon fiber composite. The suspension scheme is push-rod on both the front and the rear axle, with springs operated via rockers. Gearbox X-track 6 speeds, operated via paddle shift. Brakes have 4 pistons AP Racing calipers and carbon vented rotors. Wheels diameter is 18 inches. Overall weight 900 kg, the minimum according to regulations.



The swiss Rebellion Racing team engaged two Lola B10/60 at the Le Mans 24 Hours 2010; the number 13 was driven by Nicolas Prost, Neel Jani and Marco Andretti. The Engine was the Judd GV 5.5, a V10, 72° unit, with 4 valves per cylinder and double overhead camshaft. Displacement was 5.5 liters and weight 135 kilograms; the maximum power, with the two air restrictors required by the Rules, is 650 hp at 7000 rpm.

The third version of Policar's fabulous Lotus 72's has just been announced, and what a cracker! - it is the JPS car that Emerson Fittipaldi raced at the 1972 Monaco Grand Prix. Of note is that, just like Ferrari did some years later, Lotus mounted the rear wing in a more forward position than normal, so that the reduced overhang would be less likely to hit the barriers. I do not believe that this configuration of the 72D has been modelled as a slot car before. Also remember that sidepods, wing shape and radiators etc changed during the competitive life of this successful race car.

The recent favourable reviews in Slot Magazine and the NSCC Journal proves that Policar, with more than a little help from Maurizo at Slot.it, are on to a winner with their entrance into the classic F1 market. With a March 701 planned to join the fray later in the year from Policar, things are looking up for lovers of 70's Grand Prix cars who want to race.

Ecurie Bonnier was founded by Joakim Bonnier in 1969 for the purpose of entering the Formula 1 Championships with Lotus and McLaren. ‘Jo’ had enjoyed a long driving career since 1956 and had lots of experience with all the top teams as well as having run his own teams since 1966. It was in 1970 that Jo Bonnier drove a McLaren M7C under his own team in the US Grand Prix held at Watkins Glen. It was his first race behind the wheel of the McLaren M7C but he unfortunately had to retire from the race half way through due to a broken water pipe.

Held at Montjuich Circuit, the 1969 Spanish Grand Prix took place on 4th May and was the second round of the 1969 season. A famous race of high attrition and danger due to the rear wings of many of the drivers failing, causing several crashes. This led to the race being the end of the high wing era of Formula 1 racing. Jacky Ickx was in second position behind Stewart, but in the closing laps he suffered rear suspension failure and retired.

The classic Jaguar D-Type has a rich racing history. The XKD504 chassis complete with body registration 376SG raced all the world from 1955 to 1963, in 43 events and racking up 4 wins. It was driven by legends of the sport including Salmon, Sutcliffe and Beub to name but a few. As previously reported the OSC guys are making huge strides to improve the mechanical integrity of the SRC brand and we are pleased to see the Capri make a return. This version although not a pure club race car mentioned already will have a completely re-engineered and improved chassis over the Capri's that were available a couple of years ago. This is the artwork of the first of four Capri's due in the next 12 months, and this one should be with us in 4-6 weeks.

A very unusual model that they will be making this year is a classic 1950 Cadillac coupe de Ville. The car in question is what is known as the 61 Series, and believe it or not, raced at Le Mans in 1950. The stock bodied car was raced alongside a lightweight re-bodied open race car based on the 61 Series Coupe chassis called 'Le Monstre'. However not only did the Standard Coupe finish the 24hrs in 10th place, but it narrowly beat its Briggs Cunningham team car which came in 11th.

Production of McLaren F1 GTR, directed by former Formula 1 engineer Gordon Murray, began in 1992 and ended in 1998. At that time, it was the fastest car ever built.

The F1 GTR raced in Le Mans for the first time in 1995, winning outright, with 5 cars reaching the finish line in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th position

The car featured a monocoque carbon – fibre chassis and a BMW 5990 cc V12 engine.

In 1997, the F1 GTR was developed into the Long Tail version. Number 44 raced in Le Mans for Lark McLaren Team, driven by Akihiko Nakaya, Keiichi Tsuiya and Gary Ayles.

The R18 e-tron quattro is a hybrid version of the R18 ultra, named after Audi "e-tron hybrid technology", which consists of a front mounted electric motor working in synch with Audi integral traction system. A diesel engine provides power to the rear axle both on the Audi e-tron as well as on its more traditional sibling Audi R18 Ultra. The energy storage unit for the electric motor is a flywheel system designed by Williams Hybrid Power. The Audi R18 e-tron belongs to the 2 megajoule (2MJ) category.
A four wheels drive system, as per the Le Mans regulations, can only be used on hybrid cars if the electric motor is mounted on the opposite axle of the traditional motor. Besides, electric traction may only be available at speeds above 120 km/h (75 mph), to limit the traction advantage of a 4WD system at slow speed. Management of electric motor and of drive train is completely automatic.

On its Audi R18 e-tron Slot.it has created a 4WD system which is truly unique and innovative. In the Slot.it system, a toothed belt provides power to the front axle through two micro pulleys which are coupled to the left wheels. Here, the work of two clutched bearings (unidirectional bearings), mounted between the front wheels and the front shaft, makes it possible to transmit positive torque only, removing any braking torque, so that the model, while retaining real 4WD traction, keeps its top speed on straights and handles like it should when turning.

In 2013 the race was interrupted several times because of the numerous accidents. Eventually, for the third consecutive year a car Audi Sport Team Joest prevailed, driven by Tom Kristensen, Allan McNish and Loïc Duval.

C3701A: The notorious Nürburgring was the setting for round 7 of the 1969 Formula 1 season. Graham Hill and his Lotus 49 had a disappointing start to the season before arriving for round 7 and after struggling in qualifying, he managed to take his Lotus to 9th position on the grid. Eventually though, due to a series of crashes and retirements for Vic Elford, Piers Courage, Jochen Rindt and Denny Hulme (who all started ahead of him), Hill managed to finish the race in 4thposition, 4 minutes behind race winner Jacky Ickx.

C3748: Brodie’s Ford Escort MkI was the ultimate modified sports car, called ‘Run Baby Run’. Powered by a specially modified 2.1 litre BDA engine, the car was rumoured to have won over 200 races between 1969 and 1972. This car set the fastest lap time (57.6 seconds) at Crystal Palace in 1971, a time that has never been beaten in the special saloons series (over 1300cc).

The lovely Lola T70 from FlySlot's Slotwings collection has made a welcome return in the guise of the legend that was Kiwi Denny Hulme's car that he raced at the 1968 Tourist Trophy. The TT held at Oulton Park, was traditionally a race for touring cars but the organizers decided to make the event that year for Group 7 sports cars. The field was littered with what are now desirable classic sports racers including GT40's, Ford P68's, and David Piper's Ferrari 412P which finished in second place, behind Hulmes victorious Lola Chevrolet.

News from SRC/OSC regarding new releases due in the near future;

Due shortly is the next Formula One release from SRC the beautiful Ferrari 312 T4. SRC have completely revised the front end of these models which incorporate new steering and hubs, meaning that the front wheels will now stay attached.









Because SRC individually number their chassis, the new ones have "Spare Parts" stamped on them, so probably won't appeal to the collectors.

The chassis will still have the angled motor set up with idler gear, as a change now would be too uneconomic but many have done their own mods to these chassis, and by just removing the too powerful magnet helps a great deal.

At the 2012 Paris International Auto Salon Bentley announced they were planning a return to the race track with the unveiling of the Continental GT3 race concept car.
